J.S. Chase

J.S. Chase

" ... like the creases in an aged face. "

from Yosemite Trails
________

Chase's uncanny ability to personalize the landscape, while intensely
compelling, is delivered with a casual offhandedness.

" Our trail lay now over a rough plateau thinly timbered with pines who's foliage
was of a black and serious cast. These wind-swept table-lands, open to every
weather, have often a peculiarly stark and forbidding appearance; the blazing
sun and withering winds seem to have bleached the very granite to a shivering
complexion, and the shallow draws and contours, marked with dark timber are
drawn in lines like the creases in an aged face. "
